A study buddy that lives on your Mac.

Mascot sits on your Dock and keeps an eye on your coursework. When a deadline gets close it says so — before you find out the hard way.

A pixel-art capybara resting

What it does

Read

Sign in once and your coursework appears automatically. Mascot also sees what you have already turned in, so it stops reminding you about work that is done.

Reacts

The capybara is relaxed when you have time and increasingly less relaxed when you do not. You learn how much trouble you are in at a glance, without opening anything.

Add

Press ⇧Space anywhere and type essay friday 5pm. Mascot works out the title and the date. Useful for coursework that never made it to Classroom — Teams assignments, group projects, things a lecturer only said out loud.

Syncs

Add a deadline on your phone and it shows up on your Mac. Tick it off there and Mascot goes quiet.

Your coursework stays on your Mac

Your coursework never leaves your Mac. No tracking, no analytics, and no account needed — Mascot works signed out and always will. When it does reach the internet it is fetching mascot packs, never sending your work.

No analytics. No tracking. Your coursework is never transmitted to me or to anyone else, and you never need an account to use Mascot. The parts that use the internet are the mascot store, which fetches a list of packs when you open it, and an optional account for people who want to publish a pack of their own. The full details are in the privacy policy.

Download Mascot

Requires macOS 14 or later. It is free.
macOS will say it can't verify the app the first time — that means it isn't notarised by Apple yet, not that anything is wrong. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. Once only.

Questions

Does it work with Microsoft Teams?

Not automatically. Teams Assignments cannot be read by third-party apps without your school's IT department approving it. Instead, copy an assignment's text and paste it into Mascot's quick-add box — it will work out the title and due date.

My school blocks it

Some schools block third-party apps from connecting to Google accounts. If sign-in fails, your IT administrator would need to allow Mascot. Everything else in the app still works without it.
