Add a dated reminder on your iPhone in an iCloud Reminders list. With the same Apple Account and Reminders sync enabled on both devices, it reaches your Mac. Connect that list in Mascot and it can remind you. Complete it on your phone and Mascot quiets down after the change syncs.

  1. Step 1: Right-click your mascot

    Find the capybara hanging on your Dock and right-click it to open its menu.

    Using a trackpad? Click with two fingers, or hold Control while you click.

  2. Step 2: Choose Google Classroom

    Move to Sign In to Google Classroom… in the menu and click it. Google’s sign-in page opens in your browser.

    Start from the mascot’s menu, even if Classroom is already open in another tab.

  3. Step 3: Pick your Classroom account

    Choose the Google account you use for your classes. If it is not listed, choose Use another account and sign in.

    Account names and email addresses are hidden in this recording.

  4. Step 4: Review Classroom access

    Review the Classroom permissions Google lists. To connect, select the listed Classroom permissions; the recording uses Select all.

    These permissions let Mascot read your classes and coursework. The exact wording may vary.

  5. Step 5: Continue and confirm

    Click Continue. Wait for Signed in, then click OK when Mascot says Classroom connected.

    You can close the sign-in tab once the connection is confirmed.

  6. Step 6: See your upcoming work

    Click your mascot to open Upcoming work. Your Classroom assignments appear here with their due dates.

    If nothing is due, you’ll see All clear. Use Refresh to check again.

The capybara is just the first one. Every mood is its own drawing with its own frames, so a pack can have calm asleep in one frame and overdue on fire in eight.

The tools for drawing a pack and sharing it in the store are coming in a later version of Mascot. When they arrive, every pack will be looked at by a person before it is listed, most obviously for art that is not the submitter's to share. Want to be first? Tell me you draw.

The format, in one breath

PNG with alpha. Frames left‑to‑right in one row. Five frames a second, always. Urgency is yours to draw, not ours to fake. 4–8 frames per mood is the sweet spot.

The first time you open it

This release is not notarized by Apple. macOS may block the first launch because it cannot verify the developer. If you choose to open this download, follow Apple’s steps below.

1Move Mascot to Applications and try opening it once.
2Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and find the message about Mascot.
3Choose Open Anyway and confirm. This creates an exception for Mascot.

Questions

The ones people ask.

Do I need to sign in?

No Mascot account is needed for deadlines or installing packs. Connect your Google account only for Classroom. Calendar and Reminders use macOS permissions; an iCloud account is needed if you want Apple to sync them between devices.

How do I connect my iPhone?

Enable iCloud Reminders with the same Apple Account on your iPhone and Mac. Right-click the mascot, choose Connect Calendar & Reminders, then select your Reminders List. Add a due date to each reminder. Apple handles the sync; Mascot reads the list on your Mac.

Will it run on my Mac?

The current version is for Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 14+. Check Apple menu → About This Mac for your chip and macOS version. This download does not include an Intel build.

Does it work with Microsoft Teams?

Not automatically. Teams Assignments cannot be read by third-party apps without your school's IT department approving it. Instead, copy an assignment's text and paste it into Mascot's quick-add box: it will work out the title and due date.

My school blocks it

Some schools block third-party apps from connecting to Google accounts. If sign-in fails, your IT administrator would need to allow Mascot. Send them the page for school IT: it has everything they need to do it in two minutes. Everything else in the app still works without it.

Thanks for trying it early. Mascot is made by one person and is in its testing period, so expect a few rough edges, and when you find one.

macOS will warn you the first time you open it

You will see Apple could not verify “Mascot” is free of malware. That appears because Mascot is not notarised by Apple yet. It means Apple has not checked it, not that anything harmful was found.
