Mascot for macOS · Last updated 30 August 2026

The short version

Mascot is free, and you don't need an account to use it. If you draw a mascot pack and send it in, it stays yours: you're just letting me hand it out through the store. I might say no to a pack, or take one down if there's a problem, and you can pull yours whenever you feel like it. That's honestly most of it.

Who you're dealing with

Hi. It's one person, the developer of Mascot. No company, no team. So "I" means me, "you" means you, and if something here is unclear you can just email me and ask.

Using Mascot

Use it on any Mac you own, for as long as you like, for free. The only things I'd ask you not to do are sell it, pass it off as yours, or pull it apart in order to do either of those.

One honest warning: Mascot is a study aid, not a safety net. It can miss a deadline, show one late, or get it wrong about whether you've turned something in. Your work is still yours to keep track of, please don't trust a capybara with your degree.

Accounts

You only need an account if you want to publish a pack. Keep your password to yourself, and give me a shout if you think someone else has got hold of it. If an account is being used to upload things that break the rules below I may have to suspend it, but I'll always tell you why.

If you make a pack

This is the part worth reading properly, because it's about your artwork.

It stays yours

Sending me a pack doesn't hand over any ownership. You keep the copyright, and you can still do whatever you want with the same art, sell it somewhere else, put it in your portfolio, give it away. It's your work.

What you're giving me is permission to hand it out through Mascot: to store it, show it in the store, and let people install it. It's non-exclusive, and it only lasts while the pack is listed. Take the pack down and that permission goes with it, though anyone who already installed it keeps their copy. I can't reach into someone's Mac to take it back, and I wouldn't want to be able to.

What you're promising me

When you send a pack in, you're telling me, and I'm taking your word for it, that:

Getting looked at

A real person checks every pack before it goes in the store. If I turn one down I'll tell you why, and you're very welcome to fix it and send it back. If something comes up later about a pack that's already listed, usually a copyright complaint, I may have to take it down, and I'll let you know about that too.

Want your own pack removed? Just ask. No notice, no reason needed.

Money

Right now every pack is free. Nobody pays for one and nobody gets paid for one, in either direction.

If paid packs ever happen, I'll say exactly what the commission is (the share of each sale I'd keep), here and in the app before it applies to anything. Nothing you've already sent in will quietly start costing money. And if the terms don't suit you when that day comes, pulling your pack is always an option.

What I can't promise

Mascot comes as it is. It's one person's project, so I can't promise it'll be bug-free, that the store will always be up, or that it'll survive every macOS update. What I can promise is that I'll fix what I reasonably can.

So, the careful sentence: as far as the law allows, I'm not liable for work you miss, marks you lose, files you lose, or anything else that follows from using Mascot. Where the law doesn't allow that, my liability is limited to whatever you've paid me, which, today, is nothing.

Stopping

You can stop using Mascot whenever you like by deleting it. Ask me to delete your account and whatever's held for it, and I will.

It's also possible that one day I stop running the store, or stop working on Mascot altogether. If that happens I'll say so here with as much warning as I can manage, and the app will carry on working on your Mac regardless. Your deadlines, your mascot and any packs you've installed don't depend on me being around.

If this page changes

I'll update it here and change the date at the top. Anything that genuinely affects people who've published packs will be said in the app too, not tucked away on a page nobody reloads.

The legal bit

These terms are governed by the law of Thailand, which is where I live and where Mascot gets made.
